David DeFrieze, NCMA Chapter President
Owner – DeFrieze Consulting and Programs, LLC
Contracts are a tool we use to perform a mission. Contracts are written by people. People are imperfect, so naturally, despite all our efforts, contracts are imperfect. Wouldn’t it be great if all involved in execution understood each other…and trusted each other? After all, trust equals efficiency, and efficient and effective performance of the contract is what all parties desire.
In this session, you will hear of a process that has been used successfully by all major Agencies of the Federal Government to improve trust and communication between contract partners. It is a means where leadership can manage conflict, not resolve it after it arises. It is the Partnering for Success process, roughly defined as a project specific, inter-organizational, conflict management process. Currently widely used in the construction industry, Mr. David DeFrieze Esq. will introduce how it moved from construction to defense/aerospace, the process itself, its elements, its history, its benefits (including the windfall benefits), and how we can begin using it on our projects.
It is truly a paradigm shift for many of us, and the single best way I have seen to improve overall performance in large, complicated projects!
Alice Eldridge, SVP, General Counsel, and Secretary BAE Systems, Inc, is responsible for all legal matters, Contracts, Security, Ethics, Compliance and Export Controls for an Organization of over 34,000 employees in the U.S. and Overseas.
Ted Harrison, MG US Army (ret), VP/GM Defense, Belcan Government Solutions and Board Member, NCMA HQ
Trust serves as the cornerstone of successful organizations, encompassing trust within teams, trust towards subordinates, and, crucially, trust in leadership. Building trust is a strategic investment, and fostering an environment where trust can thrive is a key responsibility for any leader. Trust is cultivated through demonstrating competence and, more importantly, through ethical leadership. Lapses in ethical leadership can devastate an organization. Ethical missteps can severely harm an organization, and while ethical breaches are all too common and anyone is susceptible, preparing oneself for the leadership environment can help avert such failures.
